Power, influence won't help alter God's judgement, Shukri tells politicians

The past one year has been a dramatic period for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), which even led its officers to turn to the heavens for protection by organising a mass prayer.
And it is on a divine note that outgoing MACC deputy chief Mohd Shukri Abdull issued a reminder to politicians in his farewell speech.
“To politicians, ministers and elected representatives, remember you are there (in the respective positions) because of the people, serve with sincerity and integrity.
“Remember, one day, the people will be witnesses when we meet our Maker.
“At that point, positions will not have influence, no conspiracies, and no power will help you change the decision of our Maker,” he said.

Shukri also reminded his staff that MACC is not the place for cowards or the fainthearted.
“Do your duty correctly without fear... Preserve MACC’s independence to battle corruption.
“This is not an easy job, there are many challenges and tests. Face them with wisdom and courage,” he added.
