Perkasa ponders Ku Nan's dilly-dallying over DBKL corruption

Malay rights NGO Perkasa has expressed concern over Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor's non-committal response to measures against corruption and abuse of power to shore up his ministry and agencies under it, like Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
"Perkasa wonders why Tengku Adnan seems to dilly-dally in the matter which involves the integrity of his ministry, especially after the arrest of a high-ranking individual in DBKL by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission," Perkasa Supreme Council member Muhammad Faiz Bin Na'aman said in a statement today.
The NGO pointed out that Tengku Adnan, also known as Ku Nan, had said that he himself would not publicly declare his assets for fear of exposing himself to criminal activity.
This despite the minister himself calling out for more stringent measures on asset declaration for DBKL and his ministry, following the MACC arrest of the top official for alleged graft.
Perkasa said, as argued by think tank Ideas chief executive Wan Saiful Wan Jan, it was an insult to the police to say that he had no confidence in their protection against would-be criminals. Also officials from other countries publicly declare their assets without criminals targeting them wholesale.
At the same time, Perkasa also noted that Ku Nan reportedly said that he would rather avoid open tenders for projects under his ministry supposedly for fear of having the lowest bidder turn belly up, or being unable to finish the job.
This, said Perkasa defied logic, referring to PKR's communications director Fahmi Fadzil, who argued that the standard practice for cleaning up the project award process, is to institute open tenders, which is also the declared favoured anti-graft measure supported by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Praising the MACC for its Aug 15 arrests of three high ranking senior public servants for alleged corruption, Perkasa said that this proved graft was still rampant in government service, and hoped that Ku Nan, like other ministers, would be more transparent and committed to anti-graft measures.
Perkasa also called for more efforts to educate society about the dangers of graft as well as for the MACC to be given more powers to fight graft, including the power to prosecute on its own.
On Aug 15, the MACC arrested three high ranking and titled civil servants for alleged corruption, including a high ranking DBKL official who was in charge of project management.- Mkini
