KL doesn’t only comprise Bangsar and TTDI, Fahmi tells mayor

Kuala Lumpur mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz has come under fire for suggesting that the public supported the Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) move to hike parking rates based on surveys of residents in Bangsar and Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI).
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil reminded the mayor that KL didn't only comprise Bangsar and Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
He questioned if DBKL sought feedback from other areas when it decided to impose the parking rate hike.
“Mayor, Kuala Lumpur is more than just Bangsar and TTDI.
“How about residents in Jinjang, Taman Seri Sentosa, Taman OUG, Keramat Wangsa, Taman Dato Senu, Danau Kota and many more places in Kuala Lumpur?
“Did the mayor also get the same feedback from all residents there?” he said in a statement today.
Fahmi said DBKL should have held townhall meetings with all stakeholders before rolling out the new policy.
“The drafting of policies that have significant impact should not be made based on the feedback of one or two communities only.
“It should be done through data-driven and evidence-based policy making coupled with a public consultation process,” he said.Fahmi urged DBKL to temporarily halt the parking rate hike until proper consultation is conducted.

Earlier today, Mohd Amin claimed the public were behind the parking rate hike.
“Many people support the increase in the parking rate, but the press does not support. I don’t know about the other side (opposition).
“When there is an increase in parking lots, and we control them, the people have ample space to park, especially in Bangsar.
“In the past, there was double parking, but now there is space to park. The residents in Bangsar and TTDI are happy,” he was quoted as saying. - Mkini
