Welcome to the ring, Salleh tells ally-turned-rival Shafie

Sabah Umno is unfazed over the prospect of its former strongman Shafie Apdal entering the state political arena as a rival.
According to former Sabah chief minister Salleh Said Keruak, this is because the people of the state still support Umno.
“Shafie has decided to compete with us.
“In a democratic system we welcome this. Sabah Umno remains strong and does not face any major problems,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.
Shafie, a former Umno vice-president, was dropped as a cabinet minister by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak last year over his critical views regarding 1MDB.
Last July, he was suspended as Umno vice-president, but he chose to quit the party.
Salleh, on the other hand, is a staunch supporter of Najib and serves as the current communication and multimedia minister.
Earlier today, Shafie submitted an application to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to change the name and logo of an existing political party, which he has taken over.
Probe illegal migrants issue
On another matter, Salleh who is also former Sabah chief minister, urged state authorities to investigate who is conspiring to bring in illegal migrants from Indonesia through Tawau.
He said that this is important to ensure the safety of the people in the state.
"I hope authorities will investigate the matter. If it is true, action must be taken against those responsible. As security personnel are supposed to ensure our security (not let illegals in).
"To me it must be solved for the sake of Sabahans for I believe that security is our priority, so that we can live comfortably," he said.
Prior to this, a video filmed covertly by undercover Indonesian journalists went viral on the social media, showing how easy and cheap it was for them to pay to be smuggled into Tawau illegally.
Police have said that they have identified some of the security personnel involved, as depicted in the video which went viral on Sunday, with an investigation ongoing and more stringent checks to be instituted in domestic jetties and landing points to curb such incidents. - Mkini
