GEORGE TOWN: A security guard alleges he was assaulted by a condo resident in Bukit Gelugor, Penang, yesterday when he was videoing the man trying to break a tyre clamp.
The video, which was shared with the media by the police, showed the resident trying to remove the tyre clamp from the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz, using something that looked like a bolt cutter.
When he turned and saw that he was caught on video, he approached the guard with the bolt cutter.
Words that sounded like “what more you want to see” in bahasa was heard, followed by “boss, boss” as the guard fumbled with his smartphone.
The resident was seen raising the bolt cutter but it was not clearly shown on video whether he hit the guard as the 40-second recording ended abruptly.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the police received separate reports from both men about the 4pm incident on Saturday.
He said the guard, 43, reported to the police at 7.40pm that he was hit and injured by the condo resident at about 4pm yesterday in front of the Delima Palace condo lobby.
“The guard said the resident had parked his car in a waiting lot for too long, so the building management clamped the wheel.
“The guard said the resident quarrelled with him after he saw that he was caught on video while trying to remove the clamp.
“He said the resident then attacked him with the bolt cutter, punched and kicked him; injuring his body and face. He had gone to the hospital to check and treat his injuries,” Mior said in a statement today.
He said the resident also lodged a report. The police are investigating both reports while recording statements from other witnesses and checking CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage of the incident.
“We will then refer to the deputy prosecutor’s office for further action,” he said, adding that the case was probed under the Penal Code for causing hurt. -FMT
