Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will heed instructions to cease sponsoring all non-education related matters, said the agency's chairperson Annuar Musa.
"We will abide by the instruction. It is a good move," said Annuar, according to Sinar Harian today.
Last week, Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim accused Annuar of using his position to influence agency and its subsidiary UniKL to sponsor Kelantan football team The Red Warriors.
According to Tunku Ismail, the amount came up to RM700,000. At the material time, Annuar was the president of the Kelantan Football Association.
Annuar claimed that not a single sen from Mara flowed to The Red Warriors.
However, Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, whose ministry oversees Mara, decided that the agency should no longer sponsor non-education matters.
Meanwhile, Annuar said the Red Warriors will continue to feature the Mara logo on their jerseys, as there was no time to prepare new ones.
He claimed that the public should stop spreading misinformation about sponsorship from Mara and UniKL.- Mkini
