Declassify 1MDB report by 100th day in office, Madinah urged

Auditor-general Madinah Mohamad has been urged to declassify the auditor-general's report on 1MDB by her 100th day in office.

PKR communications chief Fahmi Fadzil said Madinah must "find the courage" to do so, after finally facing the media yesterday, 62 days after her appointment.

"The public and I are disappointed that she refused to answer questions from reporters on the status of the auditor-general's report on 1MDB. Her refusal to respond on this is not a positive thing...

"I urge Madinah to find the courage to advise Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to declassify and reveal the auditor-general's report on 1MDB.

"I hope the public will be able to read it by the 100th day of Madinah's appointment as auditor-general," Fahmi said in a statement.

Madinah's appointment was fraught with controversy, as she is an Umno member and is married to the Kepong Umno division chief, who had once vowed to die for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Her husband, Rizuan Abdul Hamid, had also once sought a support letter from Najib over Rizuan's bankruptcy issue.

Rizuan told Malaysiakini that he had sought assistance from the prime minister when he was unable to service the loan and interest after acting as a guarantor for his friend, a company director.

Asked of her Umno links yesterday, Madinah said it was "behind her" and that she is ready to serve the people.

She just smiled and walked away when asked about 1MDB.- Mkini
