Family of tycoon Tiong Hiew King confirms stroke

Family of Sibu-born timber and publishing tycoon say he is 'strong' and in 'good condition', and request the public to pray for him.
Tiong-Hiew-KingPETALING JAYA: The family of Tiong Hiew King says the media and timber tycoon is “strong” and in “good condition” despite suffering a stroke last week.

This follows their initial reluctance to speak on the matter after rumours surfaced that the 82-year-old, who is executive chairman of Media Chinese International Limited Group (MCIL), had suffered a stroke.
Today, The Star confirmed the stroke, adding that Tiong, who is also the founder and executive chairman of the Rimbunan Hijau Group, was admitted to a hospital in Singapore last Thursday.
The report added that his family and members of the company’s top management had gone to Singapore to be with him.
In a statement carried by the daily, Tiong’s family members asked for prayers for his health.
“Tan Sri is a great man of God who has contributed tremendously to the media and education, not only locally, but also worldwide. He has spoken up fairly and righteously on many occasions, and through the media, and he has created many job opportunities and contributed to many worthy causes with unconditional love.
“We pray for this great servant of God to have more time to relax and to enjoy the peace, joy, and stillness in God,” they were quoted as saying.
Tiong was named one of Malaysia’s richest tycoons by Forbes in 2014. -FMT
