PKR veep: Not an iota of truth to defection speculation

PKR vice-president Tian Chua has denied the speculation of possible defections involving Selangor state assemblypersons, claiming there is not an iota of truth to this.
Taking to Twitter, the Batu MP described it as part of BN's “vicious propaganda” to undermine the state government.
“All these talks of a coup in the Selangor state government, the defection of assemblypersons of PKR, PAS or whoever are purely fantasy and nonsensical,” he said.

“The PKR-led Selangor government is stable and enjoys full mandate from the people, attempts to smear by tainted and corrupted BN are doomed to fail,” he added.
According to the PKR leader, the speculation is perpetuated to cover-up Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's public relations fiasco over the weekend.
Although Tian blamed BN for the speculation and criticised the media for reporting the matter, the Youth wing of PKR's partner in Pakatan Harapan was among those who raised the issue.
Yesterday, Amanah Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin said it would be naive to believe that Najib held a much-hyped press conference just to announce the return of former Selangor menteri besar Muhammad Muhammad Taib.
Shazni said Amanah Youth believes what transpired at the press conference was the postponement of a coup, similar to the one that occurred in Perak, after three opposition assemblypersons quit their parties to become pro-BN independent representatives.
“The more important question is what was the reason for the postponement and who are the characters working towards bringing a group of elected representatives to be with Najib,” he added.
When news broke about Najib's press conference, speculations were rife as to whether the prime minister would announce the dissolution of parliament or that some top gun from the opposition had joined Umno.

However, when the announcement concerned the return of Muhammad to Umno's fold, the prime minister became the subject of ridicule.
Detractors who consider the former menteri besar as a spent political force claimed that his return to Umno did not warrant such a degree of fanfare.
Quoting unnamed sources, The Malaysian Insight claimed that Muhammad was supposed to bring along eight Selangor state government assemblypersons with him to trigger the collapse of the current state government.

However, this failed to materialise.
PKR's strategy director Sim Tze Sin dismissed this claim and described it as a “fairy tale”.
Following the defection speculation, PKR and PAS assemblypersons have dismissed the claim and vowed to respect the people's mandate in the 2013 general election.
Yesterday, Selangor's Backbenchers Club pledged their support for Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.
