PETALING JAYA – The mother of a little girl who was believed to have been molested in Kedah last Saturday has stepped forward and identified the culprit as a family friend.
The woman confronted the “friend” at her home in Sungai Lalang after seeing a video clip of the alleged act that has been spreading through social media the same night, Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Saifi Abdul Hamid confirmed with the New Straits Times today.
“He asked her if he could take the girl out to buy some food nearby and he brought the girl home at 1am,” the senior policeman was quoted saying.
Saifi added that the mother related the suspect had admitted to the act and said sorry before fleeing.
The policeman said two complaints have been filed on the incident, one by the mother at the Sungai Petani police station at 2.50am today. The news report did not indicate who had filed the second police complaint.
Police are investigating the case under Section 14(a) of Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Saifi said the little girl has been taken to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for a medical examination.
He also said the incident appeared to have been filmed at the funfair in Taman Ria, Sungai Petani, based on the 20-second video clip, adding that a manhunt for the suspect is underway.
The grainy clip, which appeared to have been recorded on a smartphone camera, shows a man holding on tightly to a very young girl and kissing her face and touching her underneath her pink dress while music is blaring in the background.
The video has since been removed from the initial Facebook page.
PETALING JAYA – Police are searching for a man who was caught in the act of sexually violating a child in public over the weekend.
A 20-second clip of the video which appeared to have been recorded with a smartphone camera shows a man holding on tightly to a very young girl and kissing her face with music blaring in the background.
The footage also shows the man’s right hand crawling up from underneath the front of the girl’s pink dress as he touched her.
Both the man’s face as well as the girl’s could be seen clearly in the clip that was first uploaded by Durian Media on its Facebook page but has since been removed.
The accompanying post claimed the incident took place at a funfair in Taman Ria in Sungai Petani, Kedah at 11.30pm on Saturday.
Bukit Aman Corporate Communications chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Datin Asmawati Ahmad said police are aware of the video clip but added that no reports have been filed to date.
“Rest assured please give us some time to look into it. Our officers are working as we speak,” she said in a WhatsApp text message.
