PM Najib: Work with other countries instead of bad-mouthing them

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said today that Malaysia should be working with neighbouring countries as it will reap benefits, instead of “bad-mouthing” them.
“Singapore and Malaysia just signed an agreement on another cross-border rail link, which will deepen people-to-people ties and be game-changers for growth in both countries.
“We also launched the Marina One and Duo projects jointly developed by Khazanah Nasional and Temasek, which will reap rich rewards in terms of profits for the people of both countries.
“That’s an example of the positive effects of leaders who try to work with other people, rather than bad-mouthing neighbours and spending their days writing sarcastic blog posts,” he said at the ‘Invest Malaysia 2018’ conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
While Najib did not mention names, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is well-known for his sarcasm, regularly posts his thoughts on current political issues on his blog.
There are already plans for a high-speed rail link from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, which Najib said would cut travel time between the two cities to 90 minutes, as opposed to four or five hours by car.
These projects would vastly ease mobility, increase connectivity, support industry and tourism and lead to the creation of thousands of new jobs in Malaysia, he added.

It was previously announced that the government has designated 2018 as the Empowering Women Year.
Najib said the government takes this very seriously as it recognises the contributions of women at home, at work and also in leadership roles.
The government is aiming for at least 30 percent of boards of companies to be made up of women by 2020, he added, and progress is being made towards this goal.
He pointed out that Maybank, Malaysia’s largest public-listed company, has a female chairperson and the country’s biggest public transport service operator, Prasarana, has a female chief executive officer.
“You may remember that during Invest Malaysia last year I announced that companies with no women on their boards would be publicly named.
“So it gives me pleasure to be able to tell you that the number of Top 100 listed companies with no women on the board has been reduced from 20 in 2016 to only seven by the end of 2017.
“That’s progress. But that’s still too many, and I say to those seven: we are watching you,” Najib said.- Mkini
