EC has forms to show shifted Lembah Pantai voters made request

The Election Commission (EC) said it had received address change forms from the four voters who claimed their voting addresses had been changed without their knowledge.
Confirming the matter, EC chairperson Mohd Hashim Abdullah said all changes to voter information need to be made through the Borang A form.
“In this particular case, the EC has checked the Borang As, and we found that they had been completely filled by the parties in question.
“In regards to their allegations that no applications had been made, or that their voting constituency had been changed without their knowledge, the EC does not need to explain further at this point, in light of how a police report has been made.
“As with previous cases against the EC that had also been reported to the police, the EC will give its full cooperation to the police in their investigations into this case,” Hashim said in a statement.
He added that the EC could not act “based on news reports alone, without solid proof”.
Yesterday, a family of four Lembah Pantai residents highlighted how their voting addresses had been changed to a Malay village in Sekinchan, Sungai Besar, despite never having applied for it. They have requested anonymity to protect their identities.
A police report was lodged on their behalf by PKR Lembah Pantai Youth chief Fahmi Fadzil.
The family believes the problem could possibly be traced back to how they were previously approached by an unknown man to fill up a form with their addresses and identification card numbers in order to receive financial aid.
Two family members alleged that they had been given RM20 after filling up the form, and were promised more money if they followed the man’s instructions.
“He said that he would call us during election time to come to the Pudu bus station. A bus will come to pick us up, and then he will give us RM100,” one of them alleged.
However, they admitted to not knowing the full name, designation nor organisation the man represented.
Address change now pending
According to the EC website, the status of the voters’ applications to change their addresses were presently marked as “still in progress” due to objections being filed against their application.
Sekinchan assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim previously objected to the addition of 1,600 alleged “phantom voters” to his constituency, specifically to a Malay village located in Sungai Leman.
Malaysiakini sighted that the electoral roll for Sungai Leman dated April 25 last year included the names of all four members of the family making the allegation. - Mkini
