Brisk sale of EC forms points to crowded GE14 contests

The number of nomination forms sold by the Election Commission is about 10 times more than the number of seats.

PETALING JAYA: Thousands of nomination forms have been sold in at least three states, in what could point to a crowded general election on May 9.

Sabah, Penang, and Kedah have so far recorded the highest ratio of nomination forms to seats, according to the Election Commission (EC).

In Sabah and Labuan, 288 nomination forms were snapped up for 26 parliamentary seats, while 605 forms were bought for 60 state seats.In Penang, 120 forms were bought by aspiring candidates for 13 parliamentary seats, and 390 forms for 40 state seats. In Kedah, more than 340 forms were sold for 22 parliamentary and 56 state seats.

The EC said in total, more than 3,600 nomination forms were sold for the 222 federal and 505 state seats nationwide.

Nomination day has been set on April 28.
