KUALA LUMPUR – Young lawyer Adnan Seman has been announced as Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Bandar Tun Razak seat here after weeks of speculation regarding the party’s pick.
The party’s first choice for the seat, Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar, ironically announced Adnan as the candidate during BN’s Federal Territories candidate announcement here today.
Rizalman’s arrest at a nightclub recently stirred up a controversy, leading to BN considering other candidates.
MCA has won the tussle over the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat, with its Federal Territories chief Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look getting the seat despite demands from some Umno grassroots there.
People’s Progressive Party (MyPPP) has been given the Segambut seat despite its chief Tan Sri M. Kayveas previously rejecting an offer from BN secretary general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Its vice president Datuk Loga Bala Mohan will contest the seat.
As revealed by Malay Mail earlier, two former Federal Territories ministers will also contest the upcoming elections.
Tan Sri Zulhasnan Rafique will return to contest the Setiawangsa seat that he held for two terms between 2004 and 2013, while Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin will once again contest the Lembah Pantai seat, after narrowly losing to PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar in the last elections.
Zulhasnan and Raja Nong Chik drew the loudest cheers from the crowd of supporters, followed by caretaker finance minister II Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, who had been chosen to defend his Titiwangsa seat despite previous objections from some Umno grassroots at his division.
Tengku Adnan, as expected, will defend his Putrajaya parliamentary seat.
MCA will field three new women candidates in the Federal Territories: Tan Ean Ean (Bukit Bintang), Heng Sinn Yee (Cheras), and Chan Quin Er (Seputeh).
All three of them will go up against DAP veterans Tan Kok Wai, Fong Kui Lun and Teresa Kok.
Incumbent Labuan MP Datuk Rozman Isli will defend his seat, while Gerakan duo Datuk Dominic Lau and Ong Siang Liang will contest the Batu and Kepong seats respectively.
