Sabah Amanah opens fire on Warisan, state Harapan over unequal treatment

GE14 | There is no point preaching about equality under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) if Sabah Amanah is not treated as an equal, state party chief Hamzah Abdullah said in an apparent jab at Parti Warisan Sabah and state Pakatan Harapan.
In a no-holds-barred speech in front of Warisan president Shafie Apdal as well as Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew and DAP state chief Stephen Wong, Hamzah openly expressed his frustrations that Amanah had not been allocated any seats under Harapan's pact with Warisan.
"If we are equal partners, why isn't Amanah given any seats? Can't we get two seats? Everyone should get seats.
"If Amanah doesn't get any seats at all, you are making a (mockery) of MA63, you are not even practising MA63," Hamzah said at the Sabah Harapan manifesto launch in Sandakan yesterday.
He stressed that while there is hope that Harapan will not clash with Warisan in the elections, Sabah Amanah will uphold the earlier internal Harapan deal that the PAS-splinter group will contest in two parliamentary and two state seats.
In his speech, Hamzah also made what appeared to be a veiled jab at Shafie.
"If you pick a leader, just because he is a YB (elected representative), a former minister who has money, you will be disappointed, ladies and gentlemen," he said.
He also stressed that Amanah leaders had never been aligned with Umno, and had always been fighting against Umno.
Shafie is a former Umno vice-president and former rural and regional development minister.
He formed Warisan after quitting Umno in 2016, a year after he was axed from the cabinet.
In his speech later, Shafie said he had negotiated with Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, as well as Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, for the two parties not to contest in Sabah.
In exchange, Shafie said Bersatu or Amanah leaders could be appointed as senators or other Sabah state government officials. -Mkini
