Shafie: Amanah, Bersatu can be senators, just don't contest in Sabah

GE14 | Parti Warisan Sabah president Shafie Apdal says he has negotiated with Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu for the two Pakatan Harapan parties not to contest in Sabah during the 14th general election (GE14).
Instead, he said members from either party could instead be appointed as senators or other state government officers.
"Please (don't contest), we can appoint you as senators or for other positions, the chief minister will have the authority (to do so).
"We ask this because we want to topple BN.
"What is important to us is that we are in hardship because the prices of goods are high, because we don't have jobs.
"Don't think about our own self-interest. I don't want to be chief minister, I want this (BN) government out from this country," Shafie said at a Harapan event in Sandakan today.
He added that sacrifices must be made.
Earlier, Shafie noted that in order to form a pact with PKR and DAP, Warisan had had to give up a seat for its own secretary-general.
Prior to Shafie's speech, Sabah Amanah chief Hamzah Abdullah openly expressed hisfrustrations that his party had not been allocated any seats in Sabah Harapan's pact with Warisan.
He said that this was a mockery of the equal partnership principle under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 that both Harapan and Warisan were fighting for.
He also said that Amanah would uphold an earlier agreement between Harapan parties that Amanah would contest two parliamentary and two state seats.
Meanwhile, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, who was the last speaker at the event, appeared to glance over Hamzah's complaints, and said that from what he understood, Harapan and Warisan's seat negotiations had been finalised. -Mkini
