Terengganu BN retains ex-MB in lineup to defend Kijal

GE14 | Terengganu BN has retained former menteri besar Ahmad Said to defend his Kijal state seat in the coming 14th general elections.
Sinar Harian reports that Terengganu BN state chief Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman made the announcement at his residence this morning, along with a full lineup of candidates in the state.
According to the report, Ahmad Razif's announcement puts an end to speculation on Ahmad Said, future. It was previously rumoured that he would be dropped from BN's lineup for GE14.
In 2015, Ahmad Said caused a stir when he appeared at a forum promoted as a ‘no holds barred’ dialogue between former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Police had ordered the cancellation of that the event, dubbed ‘Nothing to Hide’, citing security concerns. Najib did not make an appearance.
In March 2016, Ahmad Said also proposed a motion of no confidence against Ahmad Razif, but this was later rejected by the state assembly speaker.
Ahmad Said, who is also Kemaman Umno chief, first won the Kijal state seat in 1990 and held it for two terms until 1999.
In the 10th general election, he lost the seat with a razor-thin 264 majority to PAS, before reclaiming it in 2004. He was appointed menteri besar after the 12th general election four years later. - Mkini
